problems with music playing when I want to do something else

When i am listening to a book with the bard mobile app I will go to pause it real quick by pushing the headphones buttons. Half the time it will do what I want to stop the book until I push the button again to play the book but the other half of the time it will start to play music instead of just being quiet. I haven't listened to the music on my phone in a while and don't have the app open or anything. I do not know how to make it stop. It is dificult when I am at work and reading a book when someone comes up to buy something I need to pause my book to listen to them. But I end up having to take much longer to make the music stop too.

That is because you are pressing that button twice. To start or stop music you press the headphone button.
You have the OS 7, so make sure the music app is actually not running. Just because you aren't listening to it, nor have for a while, doesn't mean it isn't.
Press the home button twice quickly, this opens up a screen with all running apps. Run a finger to the one you want closed, but do not tap it, just touch it.
Swipe 3 fingers up to close it.
The phone will tell you all this as well.
You can keep swiping once you get it started to close everything, accept one called phone. That one stays, but you'll understand.
Cose all you aren't using, and that should solve the issue.
Also, if you have automatic downloads set, and are getting music in iTunes on say your computer, they get on the phone, so that might start the music app running, when you think it is not.
This I haven't tested, this is just an idea.
Let me know your results.

I forgot. I've not experienced what you have exactly when listening to a book, but for other reasons, and that is what I've done to keep my music from just playing.
For example, I'll want to use Siri, and I've been listening to Pandora. Well I don't want Pandora using data when I'm not home, unless I'm listening to it. I'll put the phone down for some reason with the headset attached, and hit that button, and when I pick it up Pandora's going.

I have checked the app switcher and nothing is there. i keep everything closed in it always... I only click the button once and the music will play.

Also, is there a way to close an app while in it and it will be closed in the app switchertoo? Like if I am on facebook and I can do some jester and it will close facebook while I am actually in it and i will see it closed in the app switcher too?
thanks.

OK Nicky I have also had this problem.
I had one song on my iPhone that I had there to listen to and practice the ukulele with, I finally deleted the song from the phone because I got tired of this.
But here is what I do recommend:
Go into Bard Mobile and press the play / pause button about a quarter inch up from the tab strip at the bottom and it's in the center, or nearly so. Anyway I do that, then do it with the headphone button, till it works like it's supposed to, then hit home to minimize and go to the home screen and let it play. I then push the button to pause then to play again just to see that it works.
This is really clunky I know. If I can find a way to reproduce the problem I will submit it to the developers. I see it often but haven't got a list of steps yet, which I would like to gather first, then send it to the developer. It's just so much easier on developers if they get a set of steps that reliably cause the problem to happen.
But anyway the above is how I work around it for now, whether it's my iPhone which now has no music on it except players, and my iPod which has a ton of workout and other music on it.
The amount of music is not an issue, and I also have no music player in the app switcher. This is very much a problem though one can work around it.

Oh good, so I'm not crazy. lol
I'm used to doing a 2-finger double tap to pause and resume. When I do that, my music starts. Then I do another 2-finger double tap to stop the music. I'd love to find a solution. I can't figure out if it's something with the bard ap or the IOS. I'll look around on applevis and see if anyone has any ideas.

Interesting. I do know that Apple will be updating again soon to fix some glitches. It is interesting, because if I close the app, I don't have anymore issues.
I have seen on other phones they have different issues than I do.
It seems IO 7 is not equal to all users.

I'm having this same problem, and not just when I'm listening to BARD. I can be doing something entirely different, the music app is not open, and I touch the screen the wrong way, and bam, the music starts. Sometimes it's songs I already have on the phone, twice it launched iTunes radio on me. The weird thing is, it launched into a random station, not one I'd created on my phone. But when I'd go into the app switcher, the music app was not open in there. Sometimes even the two-finger double tap doesn't work to shut it down, and I have to go into the control center to find the pause button. Pain in the ass!

Not saying this is the cause, but even when music is not playing, sometimes the track selections will be on the screen. You touch the phone, or activate it in some way it plays.
Maybe this is a visual thing, set up in the OS Apple hasn't fixed for us.
It doesn't, or hasn't caused me problems on my personal phone yet.
Not in that way, only the other way I suggested.

The most annoying thing is when you press the power button and press pause on the lock screen and nothing happens! Drives me crazy because sometimes I want to pause the book at a specific point without opening so I can quickly get back to it!

This happens with spotify and at bat as well!

I have found that IOS7 has issues with multy finger gesters, he is an example: swipe with 3 fingers left to change pages on your home screen, then slow down. Some times the OS thinks your doing a two finger double tap and it will play music. Do the two finger double tap after you have played some music on your Iphone or Idevice and the ability to like a status is a pain in the butt.

Interesting finds all. I find the problem with the app for Bard exists in iOS6 as well on my iPod Touch 4th generation: sometimes it won't allow for the two finger double tap or the activation of the button on the headphones, and instead the music app will start to play even if it is not in the app switcher.

For those who haven't seen, there was an IOS update this morning, that according to the change log has several VO fixes. downloading now.

Here's a new bug introduced in the new build. If you lock the screen VO will say screen locked and 4 seconds later say screen locked. This used to happen to me before, when I would lock the screen and adjust the volume, she would eventually say screen locked. Quite annoying as it ducks the sound of what you're listening to.

ah, thanks, I just check this bug out and sise it does exist!.

Yes, and it seems to be VoiceOver, not the phone. I thought maybe the screen was coming unlocked then locking again. but nope, it's VoiceOver. Tested by tapping around on the screen with my finger until it said "Screen Locked" a second time.
